I have this impulse to create a connection and a relationship through my artwork. To create a narrative on the surface and through the wax makes them permanent and vulnerable objects. Thinking of them as an object of “preciousness,” I find sentiment in the dried rose petals from my wedding, rosary beads from my grandmother, broken pieces of glass, and vintage lace from long ago. There is a feeling of tenderness and affection for these objects that move beyond their intended purpose into a representation of something more or long since passed.  It is an original painting created with beeswax, oil paints, and damar resin on repurposed tin. Embellished with broken slate pieces, crushed glass, rusted metal objects, rosary beads, pigment sticks, and pan pastels where the deliberate displacement challenges perceptions of aesthetics.

To say that Trudie's encaustic pieces inspire is an understatement. For me, her work stirs emotion, curiosity and a deep dive into "how does this speak to me?" I believe her art is powerful and never fails to open inner doors.
